What to Expect

First Presbyterian Church
North Market Street entrance in the fall.
How should I dress?

You will find that the community of First Presbyterian Church is comfortable dressing in many different ways. You will find some people dressed in jeans and T-shirts, while others wear their Sunday best, and everything in between. We welcome you to dress however you feel most comfortable.

Where should I park and where do I enter the building?

When you first arrive at First Presbyterian Church, you will want to park in the parking lot. Once you park, you can head straight for the entrance beneath the banner, or choose the elevator entrance to your right, where you will proceed up to the first floor.

Are there Church School classes for all ages before worship?

Yes, beginning at 9:00 a.m., children meet in the parlor on the first floor for singing before heading off to class.  Adults meet in the Craft Room or the Library both on the first floor.

What is the worship service like?

Our Sunday morning service usually begins with a musical prelude just before the hour and follows with a welcome from the pastor, announcements, joys and concerns, and an opening prayer.  A liturgist calls the congregation to worship, then we move into a time of music and prayer.  People greet each other with the peace of Christ, and then children come forward for a message.  Scripture readings are followed by a sermon. We then offer prayers and resources to God and close by singing a final song and receiving a blessing. After the service, we gather in the parlor for light refreshments. A normal Sunday service usually lasts for one hour.  We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

Is there a nursery available for my young children during the service?

Yes, nursery is available for infants through kindergarten aged children. When you first enter the church, signs will direct you to the nursery on the second floor.  Nursery Care is provided by two staff members of the church.
