Music is an essential component of our worship at First Presbyterian. We have a strong hymn-singing congregation and musicians who truly enjoy making a joyful noise unto the Lord. The choir members dedicate themselves to performing their jobs as worship leaders and have a lot of fun doing it.
MUSIC DIRECTOR AND ORGANIST
Our Sanctuary Choir sings every Sunday from Labor Day until late June and presents a Christmas Cantata on the Sunday before Christmas. The choir also sings at special services including Christmas Eve, Holy week services, and combined ecumenical services. Rehearsals are held in the choir room on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 until 8:45.
SCOTLAND BELL CHOIR
Our Scotland Bell Choir plays in the worship service on various Sundays throughout the year. They rehearse in the sanctuary on Wednesday evenings from 6:10 until 7:10.
PACE JUNIOR CHOIR
Our Junior Choir sings in church occasionally and meets on Wednesday afternoons as part of our youth PACE group and on Sunday mornings at 9:00 before Sunday School.
THE JAZZ TRIO
Our trio features our director and organist on piano and keyboard with John Lasher on drums. The trio plays gathering music before each worship service and often accompanies the choir on anthems
Our choirs have many special events throughout the year, including presenting our “Broadway Night” musical revue in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, a show which features all of our musical groups, solos, and ensembles. We have a strong ecumenical relationship with the other churches in Warren and often combine with the First Lutheran music department in providing music for special services. Our combined choirs recently presented John Rutter’s “Requiem” in concert and have sung yearly in an ecumenical Christmas concert sponsored by the Holy Redeemer Church.
