“Weave and spin the web begin/life’s connections are mere reflections/of God’s grace in our space…”
These words came to me many years ago after reuniting with colleague-friends at a conference. Years had passed. But the time had not weakened the bond. The connections were deep and strong… as they often are in the community of God’s people.
God is a relational being. And God enjoys connection within God’s own triune self: Father/Son/Spirit or Creator/Redeemer/Sustainer. And yes, we reflect that connectional nature. Week after week relationships are renewed and preserved as the faithful gather for worship. Little wonder the writer to the Hebrews offers this direction: “Don’t stop meeting together with other believers, which some people have gotten into the habit of doing. Instead, encourage each other…” (10:25)
“Fragile threads of life are we/strengthened by God’s work we see/new designs, symbols and signs/woven in our days, our times…” The words of the song continue.
We often speak of the benefits of joining together with others… not only for the joy of the fellowship but also for the “strength in numbers.” Gifts multiply. Abilities vary. Perspectives come into play. All are needed in God’s service.
“Gifts to share, in faith we dare/bind our hearts and claim new starts/by God’s grace in this place…”
May the times we are apart not weaken the bonds God has created for our mutual benefit in grace! And may we see the newness God is weaving into our lives every day!
